Children don't get to decide at any age. The age differs from state to state when a judge will consider the desires of a child but ultimately it will be decided upon what the judge feels is in the best interest of the child.

Unless there are current court proceedings, like divorce, custody or criminal abuse, the child is not communicated with about this. Only under extreme cases, would judges or attorneys question children under the age of 14. Unless there are grounds of abuse or neglect which are documented by school and court/police records, this rarely happens. If the child is 14 or over and in the midst of a negative custody battle, his input may be solicited by a judge. However, what is in the best interest of the child as a whole takes precedence.Good luck.

As the others have stated, there is no age under 18 in Georgia that a child can just decide where they live. They have to follow the court order just like the parents have to.

The parent without custody can always file in court for a change in custody and have the child testify in court, but the judge is not obligated to do what the child wants.
