I have a niece who cosigned on a truck for a boyfriend , he is living with her and is very abusive, mentally and physically, she wants out of the relationship but is fearful of ending the relationship because her name is on his car, is there a way she can get out of the contract that she has cosigned?

    Hello Kar:

Not really. Oh, she can buy the car from him... But he won't sell it to her, will he? Nope - she's in trouble. If she wants to save her credit, and he doesn't pay, she'll have to.

The only way a lender will release a co-signer is when the loan is paid.

Nope. She signed it and can be held responsible for full payment if the boyfriend defaults. Whether she continues her relationship with him (and she certainly shouldn't) is beside the point.
