    Not divorced yet
My husband and I split up and he gave me a car that he financed in his name only. My husband signed a paper stating that I was able to have the car and when I finshed paying off the car he would sign the title over to me. He has now left state and will not give me an address to find him he has cancelled the insurance on the car and now I don't know what to do. The finance company informed me that I wouldn't be able to put insurance on the car because it is not in my name. What do I do? I have to money to buy a new car. The car that he kept is in both of are names and he sold the other car that I had before we got married. He hasn't even given me a dime of the things that he has sold in are home. Please help me I don't know what to do.

I am replying to this so that it bumps your question back to the top. Have you spoken with an attorney on procedures you can go through to fix this?

First you should be able to get insurance on it, since even though his name is on the title, you have it, and during divorce court should get ownership of it.

I would say you go to your insurance agent, or the agent he was using, and merely start a new policy or pay on the old one to put it back into force. I often insurance lease vechiles that are not in my name.

And to be honest I have never once been asked " do you own this car" I walk in, and say I want to insure this car, VIN and type, and they insure it.

Double check with your insurance agent. Also petition the court again. Let them know he is MIA, you will have to file divorce by publication, probably. Basically, you list the divorce in a local paper for a few months before the courts legally divorce you. You can also file that he is in contempt, based on your initial paperwork. Don't stress out about the STUFF, it is just that , STUFF. Your peace of mind is worth more than any amount he could give you.Lots of meditation on being a stronger, more powerful woman and bubble baths will get you through. Treat this like a game of chess, what your move now? (smile) Good luck.
