    Landlord ruend my life
I lost my rental due to an ice storm. My landlord filed a suit against me for breaking my lease. Now my rental history is messed up. I wasn't even on a lease. I was on a month to month. The house was flooded 2 days before Christmas. When I came home from out of town the house was flooded. Unliveable. What can I do.

    Hello ar:

Well, there's a lot more to this story, and without those details, any advice would be worthless...

You say your landlord filed suit, but you didn't say what happened. My guess is you didn't even show up for court to defend yourself. You say your house was flooded, but you didn't say if you called your landlord. My guess is you didn't. You didn't say if you gave notice, but my guess is you didn't. You didn't say if you paid rent for your last month, but my guess is you didn't.

I don't know an awful lot about your situation, and until I know more, I don't know what you can do.

As excon says there has to be a lot more to this. What do you mean by lost your rental? If the ice storm made it unlivable, then you might have had reason to move but you had to do it the right way, which would be giving the LL the opportunity to repair the damage or giving proper notice of vacating. Did you?

You say the LL ruined your life, How? By suing you? On what grounds did he sue? Did you fight it?

Reading between the lines, the ice story caused the power to go out and the pipes froze!?
