Hi, I am new to this. I am afraid of the answer but I have to ask. Our washing machine drain backs up and overflows. It has been going on for awhile now. We recently over the weekend replaced the pipe under the house to try to remove any clogs or build up because over the counter drain-o did not work. We also added a trap to help. My husband and his do-it-yourself friend added some sort of mechanical piece at the very beginning of the pipe to try and stop it, but of course it still overflows. Now the tub is starting to clog up and back up while we take showers. It does drain slowly - not totally clogged. The toilet, sinks, dishwashers have no problems. Am I going to have to have the pipe professionally cleaned all the way or replaced? I just don't want to think about all that money :/.

Your husband was probably installing a back flow preventer. Hopefully your drain is at least 2: otherwise your problems will continue. Your drain is definitely partially clogged if you are getting back up in the shower. Take one shot at this before calling a pro. Pour this mixture into the shower drain with the screen removered. 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup table salt well mixed. After that is in the drain add 1 cup of vinegar and watch the bulbing. Allow to sit over night and then flush with a bucket of the hottest water availabl. If the drain is still slow it is time for Roto Rooter.
