    Sewer backing up into shower
    HI,

Ever since we moved into this home 9 months ago we've had sewer/pipe problems. We've had a plumber come out recently to snake the line all the way to the street, but the problems keep reoccurring. Here's what's happening: we have 2 bathrooms. We only use the shower in the front (guest bathroom) but use the toilets and sinks in both. Both toilets continually get clogged. Even when we flush nothing down them, just pull the handle. The bowl just doesn't empty out. It fills to the rim and sits there. I plunge it all the time, but nothing happens.

Today I discovered that the master bathroom shower stall has backup sewer in it. This has happened before. That's when we called the plumber to snake it. Even though we have HomeShield insurance, he said that it wasn't covered and charged us almost $300. We can't afford to have the plumber come out and do what he did every month or so. Besides, the problem keeps reoccurring, so obviously we're not addressing the real problem.

The front bathroom tub has problems draining all the time. When you're in the front bathroom tub, taking a shower, I can hear the toilet gurgling. In the master bathroom, when you brush your teeth and run the sink, that toilet gurgles as well.

I just poured Drain-o in the tub that's full of water and nothing happens. It just sits there.

We keep the drains clear or hair - or at least try our best. We clean it every time we get out of the shower. But nothing seems to help.

The problem seems to be deep with in the lines. Although this house was built in the 50's, the previous owners did change out the plumbing to copper pipes. However, I doubt they touched the sewer lines - then again, I really don't know much about that.

Please help. This is the most frustrating and disgusting thing we've had to deal with since moving in.

    Thanks!! -J

This tells me your plumber's been snaking the wrong line. A gurgle indicates a blocked vent, not a clogged drain. Hove the roof vents checked and cleaned and I'll bet your problems will disappear. Good luck, Tom
