Moving a tub drain in a concert slab
Hi I am looking at doing a bathroom remodel and my question is: I am Installing a new tub and the drain will not match up with the existing floor drain in the concrete slab floor, The house was built in 1978 and appears to have PVC pipe through out (not sure if this is true in the slab although I am in Texas where I does not freeze). I would like to just to break out the slab about 2-3 feet and connect to the existing drain from the old tub, is that possible?

Breaking up some concrete may be your only option. If its PVC you are in luck since its easy to cut and join, be sure to use purple primer.

That's what I figured on the slab problem, How about this fix, the wife mentioned that she would like the tub built up on a pedestal about four to six inches higher than floor level. In this case could I build a platform to support the tub and run a drain line to the existing P trap?

This seem a good way as long the tub has support points on the bottom that can rest on the pedestal and not need a mortar bed, also if it is OK to use a 90 degree out of the tub and one going into the P-trap. What are your feelings on that?

You could do the build up and avoid the concrete breaking. However, I would strongly urge you to make a mock up and ask your wife to climb into the raised mock up. I failed to do this when my wife asked for a raised whirlpool. Now she hates the extra step with slippery feet and want me to rip it out. Raised tubs llok cool in the magazines but in my home they are a safety hazard, it won't be safe for my wife if she asks me one more time to rip it out.
