I woke up this morning and noticed a significant loss in the water pressure in my house. The water is coming out of the faucets at less than half it's normal pressure and the water going to our irrigation system had such low pressure that the sprinkler heads would not even rotate. I have zero plumbing/water intelligence and have no idea where to begin or even who to call.:confused:

Every house does have a shut off water valve, it's where the water meter is, actually it should be right next to the water meter, check that, make sure is fully open, it should have a arrow or a line on top of it, and when fully open the arrow should be pointing in the same direction as the water line, when pointing across, its closed, hope that helps

Wait a minute I spoke too soon. I am just realizing a few things... first of all... I don't think we have a water meter because we are not on city services... we have a well. After your suggestion to check the shut off valve next to the water meter... I walked out to my yard where I thought my "water pipes, etc." were located and I noticed the hard cover over the plug to something out there was busted and the plug was partially pulled out... so I plugged it in tight and then went back inside and turned on my kitchen faucet and the water pressure was fine. So I turned back on my irrigation and it seemed fine as well. Then about 10 minutes later I got up to get a cup of coffee and I noticed the sprinklers outside had dwindled down to almost nothing and when I turned back on the kitchen faucet I was back to a small stream of water coming out. I am wondering if the only reason the water pressure came back up was due to the time lapse in between use?? Anyway... my water pressure everywhere is back down to less than 50%. I am still looking for help... thanks, S

OK, you are on a well which is a totally different story. You will have a pressure tank with a pressure gauge and pressure switch. By watching the gauge while you are using water, you can easily tell at what pressure your pump cuts on and then cuts off... the switch controls this. When you notice the pressure beginning to drop, turn the water off and then watch the pressure gauge. The pressure should recover within a very few minutes and then the pump will cut off. Take a look at that and then check back.

Not sure what you mean by this. What do you mean by a "plug"?
