Hello,

I just bought a house and found online that the fan we have in the Master is a Hampton bay but it does not have a remote. There is no pull chains, so I'm assuming you have to have it with a remote.

My question is: We bought a Hunter universal control (mentioned it works with all fans) and I'm a little confused with the wiring. I will describe it below:

The fan itself has: Green, Blue, Orange, Red, 2 Whites, and a black. They were hooked up to the old receiver as: To motor N, Motor L, Bottom Light, Top Light, AC in L, and AC in N. Those are the wires labeled on the old receiver (Model UC7067RC that came with the fan)

The Hunter receiver has the following configuration:

Red (labeled "light kit"), Black (labeled "fan"), white (labeled "common wire"), then another white (Neutral In Power), and Black (hot AC)

In our ceiling, the wires are:

Black (this was not used in the Hampton Bay receiver configuration. The previous owners had this wire taped off), Red, bare copper, and White.

Could someone please explain to me how to hook up the new (Hunter) receiver with the ceiling wires and the fan.

Before we get too far I want to be sure I understand your situation. Your fan needs a remote but you do not find one when you moved in, right?

Yes, it didn't have one

But, the receiver in the fan works. The fan was set to fast. I just can't change it or turn on the light since I didn't have a remote

So you also have a wall switch. I think you'd be better off contacting Hampton for a replacement transmitter. Return the universal.

I just have one more question... I already took the old receiver off and (dumb me) did not write down how to put it back how it was.

I can do the fan to receiver easy because they are color coded and labeled. The two coming from the receiver that need to go to the ceiling, I have no clue.

In the ceiling I have a red, white, and bare wire. I also have a black one but it was taped off and not used.

The receiver has AC in N and AC in L for the power. How do I reattach them?

The point of a universal remote is that it includes no wiring. You set it to wirelessly communicate with the existing receiver in the fan. What you bought was in fact a remote KIT with receiver and remote. It's possible you can use the remote from that kit with your fan if you set the frequency the same.

However, since your fan has separate light controls, I think the best thing would be to order the correct remote from the manufacturer.

Thanks, I was finally able to figure out what kind of fan was installed by calling several companies (it was a Minka Aire). I hooked up the original receiver. When it was originally put on, when I would turn the light switch on, the fan would run full blast and that's all it did (since I don't have the remote). After installing the Hunter receiver, and then taking it off and installing the original receiver... when I turned the power on and then turned on the light switch, nothing happened.

I didn't know if it's the same with all remote control fans, but did it not turn on because I would need the remote?

I just wanted to make sure that I didn't break it or something. The remote control that goes w/ the fan is kind of expensive, so I wanted to make sure that it was normal for the fan to do nothing when breaker power was turned back on and light switch turned on.

I thought you said it was a Hampton Bay. Minka does make some Hampton Bay fans.

That would be normal for some fans, there's really no way to know without a new remote.
