Ok I have a friend that I am trying to help and I want to ask if anyone know what she should do. The situations is that she had a relationship with a basketball player in Bulgaria(Eastern Europe) while he was living there temporary. He got her pregnant and he left her alone after all. So now he is back in US and she is there pregnant. Is there anything she could do to get him to support his child financaly? If so and if after all he wants visitation rights how would that be done considering they live 10 000 miles apart? She has never been in the US so she does not have any status here. Can she get him to pay child support regardless? After all that is his baby as well and he needs to take responsabilyties for his actions!! I don't know the girl very well, just talked to her from another forum but I want to help her with advice. I will greatly appreciate your help as well as she will.

Does he admit the child is his, or would DNA tests have to be done? Unfortunately, men will deny the child is theirs and want to forget about the whole thing once they are back home.

I just got her message back. Unfortunately he is married in US and have a baby and he does not want to admit that the baby is his so DNA test will be necessery. That needs to be done as well. How can she get him at least to pay child support for his baby?
After all she need to raise that baby and it will be difficult for her as a single mom.
Can she get him to proceed by US law and get child support at least?
Don't forget she is in BULGARIA and he is in USA. Two very different country's!
I am Bulgarian as well so I know the law there is not very good.

First, she will have to get him to agree to a DNA test. It doesn't sound like he will be agreeable to that. Can she afford a lawyer who will pursue this? (The baby has to be born before the baby can be tested.)

I don't think he will agree either. If she gets a lawyer she will have to find the money to pay that's for sure. Can that lawyer make that guy take the DNA test against his will? Because I don't think he will agree to that.

If the lawyer can convince a judge who will make it a court order for the test...

Maybe this will be answered by someone with more knowledge that I have.

Thank you for your time. I hope someone else replyes as well. I gave the girl the link to this website maybe she will join us too. And hopefully we will be able to help her with advice but I think as well that the Best thing to do it will be for her to talk to a lawyer maybe even one that lives in US she speaks very well english.

With email and IM-ing now, she should at least electronically talk with a U.S. lawyer, preferably one from the state the baby's father lives in. Many lawyers will give a free consultation for the first effort and offer ideas what she should do and how.

First, though, let's hope someone else sees this and can offer good advice.

Once she FILES PAPERS FOR CHILD SUPPORT the papers go through the courts of his county and there he will HAVE TO ANSWER and take a paternity test. I am not sure the young lady has to be there or not but it is best to get the local number to the Department of Child Services in his county. She can also file for TANIF and Food Stamps and WIC there too! So its best to contact a lawyer to alt least ask questions. Some will actually speak with you by telephone! HTH:)
