He does not have that much power, people forget to blame the real power, congress. Any and all things people are complaining about could be handled by Congress if they really wanted to.

And of course although his over all ratings is low, if you take each issue, the real thing making his rating low is immigration, if he would close the borders, his rating would jump over night.

Bush can veto bills passed by Congress. (In fact, he's been doing exactly that.) There are checks and balances in U.S. government but Bush manages to almost always get his way somehow.

Don't you find it the least bit hypocritical that these same people are taking out ads to "drive out the Bush regime" partly for allegedly running roughshod over the constitution, seem to be forgetting that same constitution doesn't allow us to "drive out" the president?

There were doing the embryo stem stell issue this morning, they news said that over 1/2 of the population was supporting "stem cell" research, it failed to say that this was all stem cell, not one type.

Same was with Bushes approval rating, it never breaks it down as to why.
On the war, the approval would still be in the 40's most likely, economy most likely in the 50's. For immigration maybe in the 20's
It is when asked a general question do you approve of the job Bush is doing, most find some issue, but while likeing a lot of the other issues.

For example in my part of the county most of the things he is vetoing are things we want veto'ed, we lobby hard to be sure they are. And the fact they other side can not get enough support to over due the veto, shows that the nation is split fairly evenly 50/50 on the major issues.

Most of the polls break it down but the media doesn't - unless it reflects negatively - and they certainly avoid congress' dismal ratings, 14% last I heard.

Uh... Wondergirl, have you done any research on this subject?

The fact is that for the first 5+ years of Bush's presidency, he neve once vetoed any bill that came before him. Not once. In fact, he holds the record for going the longest without ever having vetoed a single item to come before him. The first time he used his veto power was in September 2006, when he vetoed the stem cell research bill. So to say that Bush has been using his veto power to get his way is absolutely false.

For that matter, when was the last time that Bush got his way? Was he able to make the repeal of the estate tax permanent? No. Was he able to make the child tax credit permanent? No. Was he able to privatize social security? No. How many months did it take him to get his way on funding for the war before Congress sent him a bill with no timelines attached? It took a while to get this very basic and necessary bill to fund the operations of soldiers in the field passed without any caveats. And right now his immigration amnesty bill is being held up in Congress... and rightly so in my opinion. So Bush isn't exactly running roughshod over Congress' powers, is he.

I think you need to rethink your position on this. The facts don't seem to bear it out.
