Sharp Window Unit - Fan is Extremely Loud
Hi, I've been searching the HVAC forum and I see most posts are about large central air/heating systems.

I have a relatively minor 8000BTU Sharp window unit model# AFS80MX. The problem I have with this unit is that its incredibly loud, even at the lowest fan setting. I believe the problem is the type of fan in the unit.

Does anyone know if there's a way to change the fan in the unit? I am only familiar with small 80mm-120mm computer fans. The quietest of those class of fans are the Panasonic 'Panaflo' fans which use ball bearings encased in oil to spin the blades.

Is there any way I can make this Sharp AC fan any quieter? I'd be willing to replace the fan if I knew the model number of a quiet drop-in replacement fan. I understand that any tinkering inside the unit would void the 1 year warranty.

If anyone can help me out and list a specific replacement fan that I could use to swap out the loud stock Sharp fan, it would really be a great help.

    Thanks in advance,

    Jim

Don't know of any that are quieter than others. Window unit are always loud. Sometimes you can add foam around, on top and bottom of unit to help take out vibration and reduce noise.

What's making the noise fan blade, blower wheel, fan motor, compressor? Need more info to help. If you turn it to fan only is the noise around the front or back of the unit? You may have the unit out of level and in a bind and the fan blade is rubbing.
