    Sanitary Tee Vs and Tee w/ longer sweep
    It seems obvious, but I wonder what the logic is behind the use of a short radius elbow or sanitary tee vs one of the long sweep elbows or tees in a sewer rough in.

    Is it only for lines w/ solids or large volumes in laterals or drains? Or are the longer sweeps more for vertical stack connections in multi floor installs..

    IOW, how does a pro plumber decide which to use when both appear to do the same (to a lay person)

    A sanitary tee is acceptable only in a vertical position when used as a drainage fitting, while a wye or combination wye can be used both vertically and horizontally.

    As for the medium sweep versus long sweep 90's -- The only time a medium sweep 90 is acceptable for use as a drainage fitting is if it is being used on a trap arm or in horizontal to vertical (in the direction of flow) transitions.

    Growler gave you a excellent answer. Let me see if I can enlarge on it a bit.
    let's get together on terms. Short radius elbow= quarter bend**long sweep elbows= long/short sweeps** Short radius tee=sanitary tee**Long radius tee= Combo or combination wye band eighth bend. There are also 90's with much shorter radiius called vent ells. The rest of the information Growler gave you is bang on. Regards, Tom
