    My puppy is sick!
:( :( My 10 week old lab is sick and I just got her two days ago. We took her to the vet this morning because Her kennel was soaked with urine and blood. When we got to the Vet she said it was a UTI and Pneumonia. When we went and picked her out two days ago, we wanted her because she was the calm one out of the three puppies. The vet said she was too calm and she has had this for a li'l while. I paid $250.00 for her and want to do everything to make sure she is OK. We have already fell in love with her. I've only had her two days and she is on two antibiotics an IV and now and we have to bring her back tomorrow. If the vet doesn't see any improvement overnight she wants ex-rays and further testing. Is it right to ask the previous owner to help with the vet bills considering she was sick when we bought her?

It certainly seems so to me. I have a real problem with many people that are breeding dogs. I see many questions here from them, and even more elsewhere, that nobody that ever read even the crummiest general book on dogs shouldn't have to ask. People that sell sick puppies should be expected to help undo the damage they have done.

Keep working with your vet, and hope for the best.

I have to admit I have never bought or sold a puppy, and neither have the people whose dogs I know well. We live in a bit of an ivory tower. We are given healthy, well bred puppies. We are mentored, trained, have an 800 number to call with any question, and free medical care. I don't routinely use the medical care because it means a 300 mile drive each way. I did use it when Zeke needed orthodontic work. The catch? Sending the dog away to dog guide school after it is a year old.
