My mother died last month. My brother and I are very confused and suspicious of why my mother only had one checking account. She was very tight with her money. When I was with her not long ago, I witnessed her depositing money into a savings account near her home. I do not remember which bank, I do not live in that state. Is there a way for me to search for a bank account or safe deposit box in her name? What can I do? We are suspicious of foul play of others. :confused:

Where does your brother live ? Someone will need to go to her home and go though all her papers, also get and check all of her mail coming in over the next few months for statements from banks and the such. And talk to her friends.

But in the end, there are 100's of thousands lost every year from lost and forgotten bank accounts where the money is never gotten out.

My brother lives in Louisiana, he is stationed there as he has been in the army for 17 years. I live in las vegas. My parent's home is in pa. my father died last feb. my mother appointed her friend as executor of her will. She has gone through all of her papers that were in her home. I asked my brother about the mail and he said the lawyer is taking care of this. I tried to contact the lawyer handling her will this past week but he is on vacation until wed. my brother and I are not greedy or looking for a big monetary outcome from this, but we also do not want to have someone stealing from us. We both have a very ill feeling about all of this. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
