Pug having major problems: congested(clear), walking, eating, bathroom
Hi... I'm hoping someone else has experienced this weird range on symptoms with their pug or similar breed. I'm afraid if the vet or we don't come up with something soon he's not going to make it!

    1) we went on a walk (we do 2 x's daily) and about 1/2 way through the Pug laid down and wouldn't budge, was breathing hard, and upon closer inspection, his tongue was grayish.
    2) took him home and cooled him down with water (thought he overheated) he recovered pretty quickly and he seemed OK... but did the same thing the next AM @ 62 degrees.
    3) took him to the vet: no fever, no congestion, took a full chest x-ray (nothing found) Vet suggested Benedryl prior to walking and said the Pug had a minor collapsing trachea.
    4) Next day, noticed pug wasn't walking well - very tentative on front legs. Appeared to have pain. Some Congestion & very lethargic.
    5) 2 days after vet visit, pug got up in AM and threw up. He wouldn't walk at all. Went back to Vet for blood tests & x-ray #2. x-rays clear. No temperature. Blood test results showed slightly elevated white count and possibly pancreatitis. Was put on Amoxicilin, Tramdol (pain), sucrafate(acid), pepcid(acid). Mucus turned yellow during vet visit.
    6) 4 days later... no pottying at all for 2 days & no improvement except congestion in nose & throat clear instead of yellow. Won't walk at all. Drooling, Labored breathing, cramping around chest/back last night, choking/gagging continue - very scary. Back to vet - new diagnosis = cervical pain based on manual manipulations in office. Congestion attributed to stress. Recommended visit to neurologist. Generally, pug doesn't like to be manipulated/touched by strangers:) and I didn't witness anything unusual in re: to his tolerance of what vet was doing. I didn't feel that I was getting a diagnosis -- it was completely guessing on part of vet not really based on anything. I got a strong pain med (in case he is in pain) and thought I'd attempt some research this evening to try to get some ideas... maybe a 2nd opinion?

Anyone out there experienced/seen anything similar? Any thoughts/knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Call the vets in your area and ask if they, know anything about pugs. For example how many they have treated. It is time for a second opion from a different vet. Your vet appears to not know what is wrong or that pugs have lots of health problems(sometimes), my neighbors pug has trouble breathing, but she doesn't take her for walk either. Get a new vet.

Does he only seem to have trouble during walks?
Or is his breathing laboured all the time?

Pugs can suffer from a wide veriety of sinus problems due to their "squished" faces.
These include collapses as your vet said, as well as the build up of mucus causing infection.
If he has in infection in his sinuses it could cause a lot of the symptoms you have described.

There is surgery available to widen the nasal passages and relieve the problem but that is something you would have to discuss with your vet.
