I have living relatives that spent almost half their lives without indoor plumbing (they had on old hand pump that required priming every time it was used, and yes its still there and it still works) or an indoor bathroom. Yes they were that poor. And yes that was IN the USA. Research Appalachia.
No they didn't have TV... or a phone either, they didn't even have a car and there wasn't public transportation either.

One of the two NC churches my minister dad served (1949-1955) was in the hills. The people lived in shacks, had outhouses, no running water, and a still or two back in the woods. And they were generous to a fault! My dad often came home with apples, berries, and even a live chicken that my Idaho-farm-girl mom killed for Sunday dinner.

And the situation with my relatives while I don't remember an exact year... was at least past 1970. I think the last one actually got their first indoor bathroom around 1980. I do remember when that happened. The original house mentioned burned down in the 60's... and was rebuilt with a smaller one... which to this day still doesn't have plumbing or a bathroom... and that old cast iron hand pump is still on the porch outside the kitchen where it always was for at least the last 90+ years.
Still in the family...(cousin owns it now) but its just a weekend place these days.

Just for the record I was brought up in a house with an outdoor privy and at one stage a chip heater for hot bath water. We were also known to kill our own poultry and grow our own veg. I pioneered a property with a 2kva generator and no running water. This means I can understand how difficult it can be, however please remember that the migrants in Europe have placed themselves in the position of having no shelter, etc. Some people don't know they are alive until they get out of their comfort zone.

You guy had it so hard, but nothing like bombs bursting in air. Comfort zone indeed!
LOL, migrating to a new land was just fine for euros running from whatever but when others run from their land for whatever they are cowards and terrorists. Why didn't your ancestors stay and fight for their freedoms and rights in their native land? They had no problem fighting for the adopted one.
I find it both humorous and hypocritical one immigrant calling another illegal (among other names) because he came first. In truth this latest mass migration is no different than past migrations of humans.
Just louder by entitled snobs who forget where they came from.

I totally agree with you. But that doesn't make it naďve of me that I don't want to live in prehistoric times for a guy.
I really believe that the opposite is true, all those women that leave their luxury lifes for love and realise later on that they are not happy in the middle of nowhere without running water, elektricity or privacy.
I live in my own apartment for 13 years now. I still often have nightmares that I suddenly live in a dorm again or back with my parents. I am really too attached to my own place with my own kitchen and bathroom, that I really don't want to give that up to live like a hunter/gatherer in prehistoric times.

If they were ONLY concerned about their own skin... why did they not stop at the dozen other Muslim countries just outside the border of Syria. Why does it HAVE to be Europe or nothing.
Fact is it doesn't. Syria doesn't even border Europe...and certainly NOT Germany not by a long shot.

OK we agree.. Send them ALL to the Netherlands. Let the Dutch pay for everything. The rest of Europe doesn't want them... and the rest of the world doesn't either. Catch any on my property swiping anything or syphoning fuel out of my vehicles and they are getting shot to death on the spot. And so will most people around here. Make them wish they stayed in their own country.
I don't want them near me...and as long as any of MY hard earned money (I.E. tax dollars) is being wasted on even one of them I have the right to raise holy he11 about it.
I bet there are honest good hard working people that have been LEGALLY trying to immigrate for years being told sorry but you can't while illegals get in, get free housing, food and welfare with ZERO wait. No outrage about the people who followed the law and got screwed.

Tal let me put it to you this way, my ancestors fought for their freedom until they saw an opportunity on the other side of the world, unless you are native or african american your ancstors might have a similar tale but they came here legally generations ago. I don't object to migration what I object to is those who think they can just walk in and be looked after without contibuting anything or even seeking a visa. This not the dark ages. The syrians in Europe are similar, just deciding to walk in without any formalities. Complete arrogance. The europeans did not make war in Syria, they have no obligation to take them and one day they will wish they hadn't, just as France does. What I don't understand is the ethnic germans had serious problems with a semetic population some time ago and yet they are inviting another semetic people into thie country, it can only end badly.
Assard is a bad dude but he is no different to those who oppose him with violence, Saddam was bad but look at what replaced him. The problems that existed in that part of the wprld are migrating with them

The guy is named ASSAD!! Not Assard.
Most refugees don't simply walk into Europe. They apply for a visa. They don't want to be here illegal and most of they do want a job.
In The Netherlands welfare is enough to live off, but it isn't a nice life. I wouldn't want to live off welfare, then you are really poor. I am on disability now, but that is only temporarily, until I am healthy enough to work again. Disability is 70% of what your salary was, with a maximum of € 3000,- a month. For me 70 % of my salary is fortunately a lot more than welfare is.
Some people that are outside of The Netherlands think, what, welfare, € 700,- a month for a single person and € 1000,- for a couple! That is so much money. But life is expensive here, so people that actually live of welfare, are complaining about it.
It isn't that easy to get welfare either. You are obligated to look for a job. They check your job applications and they can stop your welfare if you aren't doing enough. They can also mandate you to work for it: sweep the streets, work as a receptionist at a public office, check the tickets of people that travel with public transportation etc. Years ago people took advantage of welfare, so the rules got stricter. And so they should!! Welfare is meant as an emergency solution, for people that really can't find a job. No one is entitled to it.
The Dutch government really doesn't hand out money for free just like that!
I don't ever want to end up on welfare either, because of all the control. You are not allowed to live together then, totally justified, but it results in checkers doing random visits to your home and checking things like the toothbrushes, your underwear etc.
There was a case on the news of a woman on welfare, that had a boyfriend and got breastcancer. So because of the treatment he spend a few night at her place, to take care of her. It turns out you aren't allowed to have houseguest for more than three nights in a week. So she lost her welfare over that!
So really, the things that people think about welfare and the way that it is actually being executed, make a huge difference.
I don't want my tax euro's to go to people that are too lazy to work either!

If they can travel half way across the planet... then YES... they had better damn well do the paperwork first.
Otherwise go to a neighboring country like all the others do.

Trust the europeans to complicate any process particurly welfare but you wouldn't survive here on E700 a month either so most welfare types have more than one to a house particurly asylum seekers and refugees who are given more than the average welfare recipient

Tal I expect anyone to respect the law. In europe these people are required to register in the country of first arrival and they refuse to do so. I saw how they respected the Hungarian border and the mess they made of various places, like it is too much trouble to find a rubbish bin but you can't expect anything from a peope who throw their rubbish in the street

Nahhh most of them are Syrians escaping Assad's atrocities .

Of course now the Russians are there with cluster bombs and indiscriminant bombing from the sky to lend a new level of horror to the people. Ironically Vladdy the conquerer claims that the Russian actions will relieve the refuge crisis.

The refugees aren't exactly starving. They refuse the food and water donations handed out by the Red Cross because to the refugees the Red Cross insignia indicates it is a Christian organization, which it is not.

Well if they have their way they will take over Europe and eliminate the Christians as they tried for centuries to do. By taking these people in Europe is dumbing down and they will go into cultural decline

Tom what atrocities are they escaping from in Turkey? Yes it certainly looked like Russians were using cluster bombs of course they could have just being civilians running. Russia knows how to subdue muslim populations they have long experience. If all those young men in Europe cared about their country they would be fighting there, not running away. Surely a few hundred thousand would make a big difference. Tell me this, if you had this going on in the US would you be migrating to Europe or fighting?
