Republicans have concluded (and they're not necessarily wrong) that they benefit from a climate of anxiety about and fear (of e.g., LGBTQ+ people, this time a T) and it's simply not in their interests to do anything except feed that noxious climate.

Many guns are banned. No has called for a ban on books, but on limiting the access of schoolchildren to porn.

Please read what I just now added to my previous post.

Access of schoolchildren to PORN??? Where? How? What porn?

    Whose definition?

Limiting their access but not forbidding their access???

Books, for instance, that have graphic descriptions of grown men wanting boys to give them oral sex. Please tell me that you are not living such a sheltered life that you are unaware of these cases.

“Gender Queer,” an illustrated memoir, contains explicit illustrations of oral sex and masturbation. The novel “Lawn Boy” contains graphic descriptions of sex between men and children.

Yes. It's precisely what is done with guns and with much in literature.

Read excerpts just as you can do on the web. I suspect you won't, but perhaps you will surprise me.

You know, at some point it would be nice to hear you say, "Well, we cannot have third graders reading material like that. We can agree on that much." Strangely, you never do. Your liberal orthodoxy evidently doesn't allow for that.

My dad would have handed me books like that and asked me to read them. After I finished, we'd sit down at the kitchen table with cookies and iced tea and have a wonderful discussion.

I will buy those two books today from Amazon.

So your dad encouraged you, as a pre-teen, to read books with graphic descriptions of men wanting to have sex with boys? Sorry, but don't believe that one. I feel very sure your dad had higher character than to expose his daughter to graphic descriptions of sex. I certainly hope so.

I will not be buying the books for two reasons. 1. I don't want any of my money to go to the sick authors of those books. 2. I do not expose my mind and my heart to pornographic material.

And there are no graphic descriptions of sex in the Bible, and neither are there accounts of improper sexual behavior where the behavior is not presented as morally wrong. If you want to disagree with that, then be prepared to give specific instances rather than the generalized, "Oh yes it does!!!"

Do you really think Lawn Boy and the Bible are on the same level? Do you see a difference between reading an account in Lawn Boy of a man seeking sex with a boy versus reading the words of Christ in the Bible? I hope I have misread your meaning.

I can only imagine how I would feel if my daughter suggested I had read graphic porn to her in her formative years. What a way to treat your dad. Wow.

Yep. Here's one of those repubs at work. "AZ Gov. Hobbs' press secretary resigns after tweet suggesting gun violence against 'transphobes'."

    No...wait. Sorry. That's a dem.

    Just as I predicted.

If you want to disagree with that, then be prepared to give specific instances rather than the generalized, "Oh yes it does!!!"
In this case, the extraordinarily lame, "You haven't read much of the Bible, have you."

    I misunderstood?
"My dad would have handed me books like that and asked me to read them. After I finished, we'd sit down at the kitchen table with cookies and iced tea and have a wonderful discussion."
I can only imagine that "wonderful discussion". "Hey honey, what did you think about the graphic description of the two boys having sex?" Sorry, but I don't believe your dad ever went there with you.

It's just disappointing to see people on this site who refuse to take a stand against, as Tom well described it, "gay kiddie porn". It's perplexing when political and social ideology override what is best for children.

I have not had a library card for years per se .I logged onto my account and checked out e books ..;. none of them were kiddiy gay porn. In Utah there were 280 parent complaints about porn books in the library . So I don't believe this is random. Prarents are taking the lead in Virginia where Fairfax County had reinstated the smut into the library system . In fact all around the country sane parents are taking back the education system from the deviant left .

Thus, your children and, later your grandchildren, knew nothing about porn, especially kiddie porn, while they were young. Even now, they avoid porn.

Thank you, Dad, for explaining it to me and why it's so important to people.

You haven't read either one of them and yet you think you know that? More ideology at work.

Thus, your children and, later your grandchildren, knew nothing about porn, especially kiddie porn, while they were young. Even now, they avoid porn.
We also didn't expose them to heroin, dope, rape, and drunkenness. Go figure.

In our case, we did have library cards and went there frequently. In fact, you will be happy to know that we were chosen as the Library Family of the Year on one occasion. But our library was run by sane people, and we supervised what our kids read. There were no dancing drag queens and no kiddie porn books.
