So, it has been some pretty interesting days here at the landfill where I work. Supposedly, there is a body buried in the trash. They are on day 2 of the search. I have never seen so many cops, and forensic people, and news stations. I am hoping for everyones sake they find the body soon.
Wow Adam, hi, I haven't hears anything on the news as yet about it. Are you able to work while they are there?

Ugh... a corpse >.<
I'm hoping that either they find it quick, or there is actually no body.

Yea, it is crazy. Pretty sick man. I will post a link so you can check out the story. I am still working while they are doing everything. They had me on guard duty yesterday and Tuesday to direct the media and keep certain people out.
Here is the story:

Got to hand it to the forensic types... takes a special person to deal with dead bodies like that with any regularity. I'm not one of those. There are certain smells I just can't deal with, no way no how.

This one will have to be a bad smell. It has been buried with trash for almost 2 weeks if that says anything. One of the detectives here has some experience with it. He says this is his 42nd murder investigation. That s 42 to many for me.

Luckily, I've not had to deal with a dead body that's gotten to that stage... Heck... just a waft of puke sends me into the dry heaves or worse.

Yea, sometimes I have a strong stomach, sometimes it is very weak. I actually want to be a cop though is the thing but it will never happen so oh well.

Certain smells don't bother me a huge amount... others I am hypersensitive to. Puke is one... rotting animal carcasses is pretty unpleasant too... can't say if that is different than a rotting corpse, or how if you aren't aware of what it is.
And I'd rather not find out before my time is up on this earth.

Just got back from the Remembrance Day parade. What a gorgeous day, sunny, crisp, and +8c. My daughter went up and placed a wreath up for my grandfather and got her picture taken. It was great!
How's every one else's days going?

It is veterans day for us to, but we call it Remembrance Day. Years ago everything, including streecars, people on the street stopped on the 11 hour of the 11 day. Now young people don't know what it means. We wear red poppies to remind everyone. It is a wonderful tradition. My son, now 29 but ever since I can remember always wanted a poppy for this time of year.
It sounds like you had a wondeful morning AB. You should be so proud your daughter is growing up remembering too.

Bella that sounds like a great day for you. I am happy for you to have had that time with your daughter.
Adam, that's one sick story. I read it. No way could I even be working there through that. Death or being near it freaks me out. Seriously. I would be in hysterics. I give you much credit my friend.

Thanks guys it was a great day :)
I actually think there are more and more young people aware of Remembrance Day now than ever. I was shocked to see the amount of tween and teens that showed up to show their support. And very respectful through out the entire ceremony. I think so many of us have lost loved ones with this war in Afghanistan and Iraq that Remembrance Day isn't only about remembering our WW2 Vets, it's about remembering the young and the brave who we have been losing unjustly for too long now.
It's terrible but, when I was a young girl in school, we always had school, businesses weren't shut down, every one went about their day, did their 2 minutes of silence at 11, and went on.
Now the whole town was closed down, school was out, stores and malls were closed. I think (personally) to have lost someone during war, and to have to work on the day you are supposed to remember them, is kind of like a slap in the face.
At any rate, I was very pleased to see the amount of people who came out to show support. My father was the parade marshal, he is with the Legion here so he was quite proud of himself, as were we :)

I think a big thing here in the USA is that Memorial day carries a greater significance... as it is dedicated to the fallen soldiers... while Veterans day (remeberance day to the rest of the world) is geared more to the living Veterans than to the fallen (but really covers both).

We do pay respects to our living, but it's a day of remembrance for those who have fallen for the freedom of Canada.
Every year on November 11, Canadians pause in a silent moment of remembrance for the men and women who have served, and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace. We honour those who fought for Canada in the First World War (1914-1918), the Second World War (1939-1945), and the Korean War (1950-1953), as well as those who have served since then. More than 1,500,000 Canadians have served our country in this way, and more than 100,000 have died. They gave their lives and their futures so that we may live in peace.
A Day of Remembrance - Veterans Affairs Canada
Remembrance Day - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I don't think the American Memorial Day has anymore significance than Canadian Remembrance Day. They are both equally important days.

Remembrance Day,
Is about remembering all the sacrifices that were made for all of us.
Remembering all who have died for our freedoms. Remembering all the wars. Remembering all the men and women who have died for our Country.
Through out all the wars that were fought including all the recent lives lost in the war. Also remembering all those that were effected from the wars. Remembering the veterans and also remembering all those that are there to this day.
To say that one is more significance then the other is ignorant.

Strangely, I didn't know that Mauritius had that too... It's only today when I went to school that I 'learned' why people were putting up metal bars and 'tents' up, that was for this day. Actually, they are making it this Sunday. I learned that it was because Mauritius was under the control of the British at that time and that the island was hence in a way involved in the war...

Hello everyone. Day 4 of the search and still nothing. They pretty much had to start over and it is really day 1 all over again all because of some idiot but it's sad because of the time lost that could have been looking for him. Now they said if they don't find him by tomorrow evening the search ends. So sad, I think for the family they should at least keep looking to bring some comfort to them. If not, well the family is stuck knowing that their son is buried in a landfill with trash. So, hopefully they have some luck today or tomorrow.

Adam you're a very strong person to have to sit and watch all that. Truly.
