nah my ancestors waited their turn ;stood in line ;were registered on Ellis Island ,and only cleared to cross over to the mainland when they satisfied immigration protocol. Many people who traveled with them were denied access for various reasons Screening began at their homeland ,but did not end there . Before the immigrant made it to Ellis Island the following happened . .... At the port of embarkation the immigrants' names were recorded upon lists or manifests. After each name the steamship officials were required by law to record answers questions relating to the immigrant.
Section 12 of the immigration act of 1903 provides that the manifests shall state,
- The full name, age, and sex ;
- whether married or single;
- the calling or occupation;
- whether able to read or write;
- the nationality;
- the race;
- the last residence;
- the seaport of landing in the United States;
- the final destination, if any, beyond the port of landing;
- whether having a ticket through to such final destination;
- whether the alien has paid his own passage, or whether it has been paid by any other person or by any corporation, society, municipality, or government, and if so, by whom;
- whether in possession of thirty dollars, and if less, how much;
- whether going to join a relative or friend and if so, what relative or friend, and his name and complete address;
- whether ever before in the United States, and if so, when and where;
- whether ever in prison or almshouse or an institution or hospital for the care and treatment of the insane or supported by charity;
- whether a polygamist;
- whether an anarchist;
- whether coming by reason of any offer, solicitation, promise or agreement, expressed or implied, to perform labor in the United States, and
- what is the alien's condition of health, mental and physical, and whether deformed or crippled, and if so, for how long and from what cause.
The master or first officer and the ship's surgeon were required \to make oath before an immigration officer at the port of arrival that the lists manifests are to the best of their knowledge and belief true, and that none of the aliens belongs to any of the excluded classes. Each alien was furnished with a card, with his name, the number of the list on which his name appears .
Before they left Ellis Island they were subject to a physical examination .Many failed at that point . It was a tough exam , If he made it that far then a clerk, or interpreter, interrogates each alien, and finds his name, and verifies the answers on the manifest sheet before him, and if, in the opinion of the immigrant inspector, the immigrant is not clearly and beyond doubt entitled to land, he is held for the consideration of the board of special inquiry. 2 of 3 members of the special inquiry board needed to approve the immigrant before admission to the country .
So let's end this lie that the immigrants of today are the same as our ancestors . They were never entitled to come here . They came here because the country determined they would be an asset to society ;not a drain. About 2 percent of immigrants were deported, usually because they were considered a "likely public charge" on medical or economic grounds. Now they become a public charge the minute they illegally cross the border .
But let's talk about a legal immigrant under current law.
Akayed Ullah a Bangladeshi got here through a F43 family immigrant visa in 2011(aka chain migration) . He detonated a home made pipe bomb at Grand Central Station December It was not an effective attempt . He was wearing a make shift suicide vest . He mostly hurt himself along with 5 innocent people who were just going about their business. Thankfully they were not seriously hurt . That was just good luck. What about their rights ? How do the Dems justify to their working class base that they are for an open border (and don't deny it ) ? How can they tell their working class constituents that they were willing to shut down the government over so called Dreamers ?

The same way repubs justified the shutdown over Obamacare. When asked repubs to this day call it justified on principle, so I guess that will do. Check out this link of past PARTIAL shutdowns.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...=.fe811402fea2
I will ask also why Moron Mitch refused to act on a vote by Claire McCaskell to fund the military and their families until the PARTIAL shutdown was resolved?
https://shareblue.com/watch-mitch-mc...-for-shutdown/
... “It’s becoming clear that shutting down the government, and holding people hostage for ransom, is the goal of Trump and Republicans. There simply is no other reason for Republicans to kill a Democratic measure to pay troops, other than to keep holding our troops and their families hostage. It’s disgusting.”In 2013, President Barack Obama signed legislation that ensured military pay would continue, uninterrupted by that year’s shutdown — which was also engineered by Republicans in Congress.
Before you get to denying there is also a video, check that out too. Maybe you make a big deal out of a ONE DAY shutdown, or long weekend, I don't, even though the point is clear, REPUBS have been willing to take hostages to trade for getting their agenda through.
We'll see what happens on Feb 8th.

I don't see anything sensible that the senate passes to solve the DACA issue having a ghost of a chance of passing through the house, unless Punk Paul decides to bring the bill to the floor whether his fellow repubs agree or not. Just like Trump opened this can of worms though, he can also put a lid on it. I don't see that happening either.

What I don't understand is why these bills originate in the senate aren't there bills before the house?

Illegals have no RIGHT to be here... and if they weren't granted VISAS and or Green Cards while in their Home country BEFORE COMING HERE.. then they are illegals. And DACA is all about ILLEGALS that feel entitled to break our laws, it has NOTHING to do with LEGAL immigrants.

Clete budgetary bills by the Constitution originate in the House . The House passed the continuing resolution to fund the government and the Dems in the Senate tried to amend it to add provisions for the so called "dreamers " (children of illegal aliens ). It was all for political show . They mentioned in a separate meeting at the White House that they wanted to have a stand alone bill about DACA . (which was enacted by executive order by the emperor because he could never get Congress to act on it even when the Dems controlled all branches of the goverment ) . herr Donald said he would entertain DACA if it was tied into his '4 pillars ' of immigration reform . (DACA amnesty along with ending chain migration ;ending the 'diversity lottery 'visa system ,and fund the border wall ). The Dems are on the wrong side of the argument and they know it . That's why they so easily caved on the shutdown. The only ones who stood firm on the issue were the ones who will probably be candidates for President in 2020 .They foolishly think that helped their prospects .

We all know Shumer had a weak hand to begin with, because repubs control the government, and while they passed a tax reform bill, they can't pass a budget, infrastructure, or immigration bill (No congress has since Reagan) without senate dems. They shot their wad, and are just stalling so not to infuriate their base before the election. I doubt anything gets done, but in March, The Dufus has no choice but to decide the fate of the DACA immigrants, unless a deal is struck, and he settles for less than he is asking for. Or he can say screw them, and be a hero to Smoothy and the rest of his base, even though 8 of 10 American want DACA settled and protected in a clean bill.
You can look forward to NO BUDGET, and CR's until then. It's really not about who is on what side of the issue, it's about who has the power to govern. Do you really think the dems will give The Dufus everything he wants to free his hostages? I don't think so.
Maybe we should import those Norwegians immediately to straighten out our mess! I doubt they come and why should they, they got it together. Humanitarian reasons?

No telling where this clown car is going but it can show up in a town near you. In a statement yesterday though, The Dufus may have mellowed,

Lots of loonies may be pulling their hair out today.

You have to go in with the reality that Trump says stuff. And then he says other stuff. Quite often, the other stuff doesn’t match up with the first stuff. He told lawmakers in the White House that he would sign any immigration deal they came up with . Well the usual suspects then showed up at the White House with their tired old Whimpy plan("I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today"). The deal was shamnesty now for border security in the future. Trump correctly knocked that one down.
Now he concocts this plan where he would more than double the amt of eligible nightmares ;aka dreamers for $25 billion for a wall. The Dems turned that down because they do not want border security .Also some of the Repubics don't want it either .Because that would be the end of their source of cheap labor . The Dems want it because they see illegals as their future voting constituency .
Trump's tweet today reveals his game plan.....showing the Dems as the hypocrites they are .
I have offered DACA a wonderful deal, including a doubling in the number of recipients & a twelve year pathway to citizenship, for two reasons: (1) Because the Republicans want to fix a long time terrible problem. (2) To show that Democrats do not want to solve DACA, only use it!
https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/...62746060206080
The Dems are like Arafat walking away from Camp David after he was offered 98% of what he wanted .

But can you believe him, this is a case of any deal is a good deal, so much for being the great negotiator. What does it matter how many you make legal, they are in the country anyway, what matters is you keep more from coming
