seems to me some bad choices where made in times past and past generations should bare the blame and feel the shame, but as for me I will dwell peacefully in this land. Those people have gone and should be forgotten and we should deal with the problems we have today. Just today we had a senior former public servant telling us taxation would need to be increased to fund social welfare programs, my response; no, public servants need to be reduced to fund social welfare programs. If this is a real problem then we need a real solution, more employment, greater opportunity and we need to ensure every new program is funded, no more political opportunism. As a way of supporting reductions, politicians should take on more constituents so there would be no growth in the number of politicians. I'm all for politician productivity ahead of other growth in productivity. politician productivity should not be measured by the number of bills passed as was so for the former government, but in the number of constituents interveiwed

call it arcane if you want and you can be as sarcastic as you like, I do. I would like to see the return to the days when politicians were not paid, sure we would see a lot of rich guys but how does that differ from the present? Why should the president be paid? we know that when he leaves there will be any number of well paid opportunities

I don't mind them being paid. They probably should be paid more. However ,I want citizen statesmen and not careerists . That's why I favor strict term limits for All of them.

I'm pretty middle of the road but I know that there are many kids who need corporal punishment. Brats are out of control because there is not enough discipline and they know they can get away with anything with no punishment. We need to return to the days when kids feared and respected adults and authority figures.

look from personal experience I know kids think they can get away with anything until they are 18 and are treated as adults by the courts, this starts in the home at an early age and is the result of the namby pamby discipline methods where corporal punishment isn't allowed unless you should damage their little psychies, I would like to damage some of their psychies. Respect needs to be taught and stronger methods than time out need to be employed at times

I stay out of a lot of these threads but I can not stay out of this one after reading peoples comments advocating child abuse. I agree my view is based on my childhood but you can not tell me people are not advocating child abuse. I stay out of the spanking threads as usually it is perception on what is acceptable.

    Leaving bruises
    Beating a child's head against a wall..

Do you know what it is like to live in fear of making the smallest mistake. The fear so overpowering you don't want to try anything new due to you may fail. That fear carries on over to adult hood

Do you know what it is like getting a report card and being in fear because you failed gym? You participated but have no athletic ability and were graded on that. You know you will get a beating for failing as that is how "discipline" is done.

Spanking on the bare for everything. With a hand but occasionally wooden spoon or belt. It was done out of anger, it was done until they had no anger left.

When does it become abusive? When the child has burns? When the child has broken limbs? I guess my abuse was not abuse and all of my fears are unfounded and I am just a person that should have been beaten more to be taught respect. Sighhhh
