    For those of you having problems find yourself a qualified installer unfortunately there are some bad ones and the equipment gets blamed!

    Low end equipment. My supply house that sells this equipment will charge a handling fee of $50 to a contractor for warranty part if they did not make the original sale of the unit. This equipment is made by Amana, also low end equipment. Goodman is sold in many ways to anyone and everyone. Just look on the internet. Be careful buying this equipment on the internet. It will not be covered by any warranty. Check their website. Most contractors won't install your equip. and you don't want the contractor who will. This is why as a contractor I have little to do with Gooman. I have seen many abotion type installs by homeowners and handymen.

    I repair all makes of furnaces and all share similar failures. When properly installed, most makes perform exactly as designed and intended. I correct too many install issues, which can be attributed to contractor's attention to detail and cause for more service calls than component failures. I highly recommend Goodman products for their value to cost ratio. It's your best bang for the buck on the market.

    In response to silicone, use food grade instead of construction grade to end the controversy. To address indoor air quality concern, choose a contractor offering solutions to minimize airborne contaminants. Installing a new furnce stirs up dust and dirt within the ducting, which definitely disperse throughout the home. Consequently, duct cleaning should be offered and highly considered when replacing any HVAC system. Spend a few more dollar for a high efficiency filter vs. traditional 1" type. You'll dust less often and enjoy every breath you take. Invest in better indoor air quality now and spend less overtime.

    I have two goodman furnaces gmnt-080 and gmnt-120. I have had a furnace person out here each season for a malfunctioning part on one of these two furnaces. I would stay away from them

    I am an hvac technician. I deal Goodman and American Standard. I sell 50 goodman units to every 1 American. Mainly because the warranty and price is better on Goodman. As a repair tech, I've found very few problems with Goodman units under 15years old. I've seen most failures on carrier brands (ie. Payne and Bryant). 2nd most on Rheem. I've found lennox and york to be good but getting parts is difficult and costly. I have a Goodman in my house and put one in my parents house. Regardless of what unit you buy, like everyone is saying, find someone with good reviews and testimonials to put it in. Preferably someone you know is going to be around to honor the warranty if necessary.

    I have been selling Goodman furnaces for over 17 years now and I think there great. I install them and never have a problem. I think the reason that some people have problems must be the installation. If any unit is not installed properly they are not going to work properly. You don't have to be a dealer to buy a Goodman so any handyman who thinks they know how to install a furnace can. I have a Goodman furnace and air in my own house and works great.

    I do they compare with Rheem, Ihave had a Rheem in my house for 2000 years, I mean 32 years (lol) and the only issue I have had with it, is the Mercury Flame Sensor broke at the switch, I drilled a hole shoved the Thermocouple wire end end inside and use a solder bead to hold it, it didn't work so I made a jumper for my pilot and then one for my main burner until I find a cheap use replacement. It is only October. Anyway, I am going to buy a new furnace online and I can get a (50,000 BTU) Goodman for $550 or a (70,000BTU) Rheem on Craig List for $400, regularly $670 online. ( I ONLY NEED 50,000 BTU'S ) Which was in better? I will be installing it myself, I am not paying for labor and I am not going with the 95% efficient one, my house is only 700 sq feet and my gas bill for the year is about $500 with my 32 year old furnace. I am leaning towards the Rheem? Any Suggestions.

    Its OK to buy online and install yourself if you don`t need a warranty,, it just means you will have to buy,and install any parts yourself out of pocket

    I bought a top of line Goodman variable speed furnace in 2007. It worked fine until January 2012 when the draft blower broke. When my service company called to get the part there were none available in San Diego and it would take a few days to get. I feel that it is inexcusable that they wouldn't have parts available in the 8th largest city in the U.S. On top of this, I am sick without heat. You would think they could at least overnight it here. Very disappointed.

    SLRobins,How is the lack of keeping replacement parts the fought of the furnace or the company that builds them
    ,sounds like your goodman dealer or wholesaler that sells parts to the HVAC install and repair contractors are at fought in your area not anyone else

    You must work for Goodman. Goodman should assure that parts are readily available in all major markets. It wouldn't take much to keep the critical parts for a few furnaces stocked with their local distributors. That is just good customer service.

    I am lucky I live in San Diego . If I lived in some northern city I could have severe freeze damage, not to mention life dangers of motivating heat

    No ,I don`t work for goodman, this is a problem that can happen,know matter what the furnace brand,try owning a Lennox furnace,you think you have a problem,, they take even longer to get even a more simpler part, and its because of the local supplier, the law says they have to make sure the parts are available,doesn`t say how quick you can get it, sorry about your problem ,I`m a contractor looking for these parts,and people like you sometimes want to blame the contractor,not the company that distributes or builds the furnaces

    It sounds to me like the repair company you called is giving you a story. Either because they are too busy to get back to your house for a few days or they don't really have any connections to get your part. Any parts distributor would gladly overnight the part if you paid the freight. By the way, if your heater was installed in 2007, it has at least a 5 year parts warranty and possibly 10years. Did they tell you that? I'm assuming they're probably going to charge you too much, too. It shouldn't cost you any more than $350 if you include the $89-125 part. If you ever have a problem with your heater again, you should go to the manufacturer's website and look for an authorized dealer in your area. They're likely to have the part in stock. I service and repair "ALL" brands and have found goodman parts the easiest to locate and cheapest to buy. Lennox is the worst, by far!
