With Clinton we had two years of budget surplus.
What are you folks looking for in a president? Jimmy Carter was "a good man" but not much of a president. JFK was an arrogant SOB and we loved him... except that he almost started WWIII. We loved Nixon and he might be the best foreign policy president we've had in the last 50 years, but he was a crook.
Given all the variation we've had, it is hard to say any particular person couldn't turn into something special. Even Bush was special for a while just after 9/11. In the end, I think we need more John Waynes these days. He once said, "He wasn't my candidate, but since he was elected, I'll support him." (Can't remember which election that was.)
