    Hi, txgreasemonkey.

Tested compression - ranges from 145 to 165 psi. Rises gradually in each cylinder.

Started the car several times during these past 3 days - started OK, never overheated, fan turned on, everything looked normal.

This morning, though, start was just a little rough – I guess all cylinders did not catch up right up (suspect misfire again) and got some white smoke (not much).

But there are still no error codes and CEL light is off. Drove it this morning to work 10 miles – all was good…

This car is just weird. Smoke bothers me, though. And I noticed some whitish stuff on the inside of an oil cap. What could that mean.

Thank you once again, you are a great help for me, man, and I appreciate it a lot!

Those look like decent numbers, to me, and the pressure built gradually. I really don't know what to suggest next. You replaced the ICM and coil. There may be some intermittant problem with distributor sensors--it's just difficult to access the situation from afar. Not sure what the whiteish material is, but it is not normal.

Maybe installing the new NGK spark plugs helped a lot. Have you pulled the BACKUP Fuse for 10 seconds to reset the ECM. That might be worth doing, along with replacing the spark plug wires. You might also replace the distributor cap and rotor. You may have carbon tracking that is causing misfires--the thought just came to me.

I did not pull the fuse, but I got new wires, cap and rotor.

Will try to pull the fuse and see what it does. What is the fuse number?

    Thanks!!

It's a 7.5 A fuse (No. 32) in the under-hood fuse box. Normally, second from the left in the rear row. It's likely some other number on a '96 Civic. Otherwise, disconnect the negative battery cable for 10 seconds.

    Hi, everybody!

I am having fun again after some kind of break. If anybody remembers :-), I had a problem with hard start and misfire. I suspected either blown gasket or a crack in the head.
I have new NGK plugs, new wires, new ignition coil, new ICM, new distributor rotor and cap.

    But the problem persists anyway.

So about 2 weeks ago I took the car to mechanic and he made a test of gases that come out of a radiator to see if there is a sign of exhaust gas in there. Test came out negative.

He told me it was a good news. I was not satisfied with his answer, though. First of all, why there should be gas in the radiator? Second of all, after a week of driving my coolant recovery tank has some kind of gooey black deposits on the inner walls and coolant is all dirty. I still suspect blown gasket...
2 days I took my car from mechanic I got 5 error codes on my ODB after a rough start: P0300, 0301, 0303, 0304, 1399. It looks like misfire again. I don't get one thing, though: if it misfires ONLY at start up, if there is a major problem, it should misfire while driving, but it DOES NOT...

    Any ideas, anybody?

    Thanks!!

Hey yeah, that happened to me too. Did you ever find the final solution, and was it safe for you to continue driving it around town only?
