So build it up the middle of the river, just because it is there doesn't mean you loose the river. There is a point where climbing walls or fences becomes very difficult, that is why they are built but putting it in the river makes it more difficult to tunnel. Family visits happen through border crossings with appropriate id checks, etc, irrigation just involves a pipe, and business can be conducted by phone internet or crossing at border crossings. The idea isn't to stop trade or normal legal relationships but to stop illegal traffic.

I saw a 50 acre housing project shot dead because of the presence of spotted newts .I saw a gas fired electric plant shot down over the presence of timber rattlers . 3,000 miles of wall will find 30,000 environmental ,and other issues that will prevent it's completion. Besides ,just the threat of actual enforcement of the law is doing the desired effect .

You don't really believe that stuff, that was then, when men were men, not wimps.. There is a simple solution, conquer Mexico again then you can build a shorter wall on your new border, think of all the lovely taxes you will collect and all that cheap unorganised labour
