    Hey, I'm good with the help from both sides. I got to the store and had the right stuff for this guy to help me. He's having surgery tomorrow so if I had not been prepared, I still would not have water.

    As for the water turn off, it was too late as I tried to turn it off at the sink and it broke off instead of turning.

    Apparently it turned just enough as it broke, that it would not let the line drain.

    But really all is well. I needed for all these things to go wrong or I would have had a more serious problem later!

    Think about it. Say the hot water valve broke closed on the sink. Opening another hot water line at or above the closed valve would allow the water to drain out at a lower fixture. One possible forgotten fixture is an outside faucet.
