Awww, I just love hearing of couples that are still together this day in age. It is so sweet!
My parents divorced after 17 years and my boyfriend's parents were never married. They don't even speak now.
I hope to die old, wrinkly and happy with the one I love.
*sigh*

My parents divorced after 35 years of marriage (they waited for me to finish High School). My hubby's parents have had mutiple divorces. MIL - on hubby #6, FIL passed away on wife #5.
My hubby and I will celebrate year #22 in June!
I do believe that society's opinion on morality is having an effect on marriages, but I also believe that most women of 50 years ago and beyond didn't have divorce as an option. Many of the women of that era didn't have the resources to support themselves or their children. They were raised to be silent sufferers and do whatever they had to do to keep their family together or be perceived as a failure by family and society. Hopefully the young women of today truly understand that they aren't expected to put up with abuse or other horrible behavior because it is their "duty" to stay.

My parents were married for close to 50 years when my mother passed away, then 3 years later my father joined her - he died 6 years ago.
Out of the 7 kids in our family, 3 have married once and I truly don't believe they will ever divorce... the other 4 of us, 1 married 3 times, 2 of us married twice (tho my brother is getting a divorce from wife #2), and 1 is divorced and doesn't ever plan on re-marrying.
My husband's parents stayed together, though his father died when he was 11 - his mother never re-married.
Out of the 5 kids in his family, 1 never married (the oldest), 2 have been married for 25+ years or so and still going strong, 1 married 3 times - my husband (but twice to the same woman), and 1 married once but it's a rocky, hurtful marriage that hopefully will end before too long - the sadness is overpowering.

Both and my parents and my boyfriend's parents are still together. But then again I am still 15 and he is 16 but we both have really good relationship with our parents and we both enjoy being with our families and sharing a lot of time together with them. Most of the time we do something we like to include them too! :)
