Actually I DID know that!
I taught in the chemistry dept at a university, and chemists always keep research notes in lab notebooks, often with carbon copy second pages. The
big rule for proper use of the notebook is
never obliterate anything. Make a mistake? OK. Single line through it. Never scratch it out. NEVER. Patents are lost that way.
Well... (yes there is a connection here)... every now and then we'd run into a student who not only violated this rule, but would use white out on the pages to cover up the mistake. Nothing like using white out on a blue or yellow carbon copy to "hide" the mistake.
So (heres the connection for those still reading) a guy I worked with, when teaching students how to use the notebooks, would go into a rant. He was a stickler for proper notebook use, and would go into a rage whenever he saw white out on the pages, stating that if a time machine was ever invented he would travel back in time and kill (yes, kill) Nesmeth's mother before she could invent "the Devil's Fluid".
OK. Maybe you had to be there.
But I knew it too, ruby. You, me, and a crazy chemist.
