I made lemonade. I'm just waiting for it to cool. I'll share when it's ready. It's made with real lemon juice and everything.

I used a bottle of lemon juice. Cheaper and easier than juicing a bunch of lemons.

Well we have a market that sells fruit really cheap. I bought loads of strawberries and cherries which is how I came to make the ice-cream, pavlova, and sorbet. I had pounds of the stuff. I made some chocolates just because I fancied that, I always have the ingredients for chocolate in! ;)

I'm a bit of a freak about making stuff from scratch. I even make my own shampoo, shower gel, pretty much everything.

Never got the hang of making decent alcohol though so we buy that.

Hubby asked me if I could work out how to make fizzy water. I was in a naughty mood so said, 'fetch me a bottle of water and I'll fart in it!' *blushes*

She is not nesting... she confuses other kittens to be hers that are already 4 weeks old... she doesn't even know she is in labor... I don't have money I am on ssi... I don't know what to do for her... she goes from room to room and lays down meows for me to be there... and if I am not there... then she will delay the labor... I called the vet and they said I needed to come with 250 dollars and they don't bill... this is my baby... her life depends on me not having money... them people don't even want to give me advice over the phone... they say bring her in... I said I am disabled and don't have money... they say they can't help me... what the hell is wrong with doctors these days.. same with people money make the living live... if you don't have money and you have an emergency the human doctors around here will not see you even when you are about to die... even emergency rooms are making people like me pay 150 before you get seen... back to the question what do I do when my cat doesn't know she is going to have kittens

You should share your recipes for shower gel and whatnot. Do you have one for laundry detergent?

I don't use laundry detergent I use soapnuts.
I get these if you aren't familiar with them:

    http://www.inasoapnutshell.com/index.html

They are great for the environment, don't fade colours, really good for people with allergies/chemical sensitivies (which my family has hence the making everything from scratch) and are so cheap. I buy a kg for £11 and that lasts me about 6-8 months. I used to pay about £7 for enough laundry detergent for 1 month. No idea what they would cost in the USA if they are available, but worth checking out if you're on a tight budget. They do a fine job on our laundry but don't know how good they would be on say a mechanic's overalls.

I don't buy any household cleaners either. Just use bicarb (baking soda) and white vinegar to clean. Again great for the health and environment and mega cheap. I bulk buy so keep the cost way down. For a really cheap soapy cleaner I save the ends of soap bars (I do buy unscented vegetable soap) and whizz them up in the blender with water and add a bit of lemon juice.

For shampoo and shower gel etc I bulk buy organic liquid soap-base then add various herbs, flowers, essential oils etc depending on how I want it to work out. I use coconut oil, cocoa butter and almond oil as conditioners or moisturisers. It is possible to make your own soap bases but it's quite tricky and a bit scary, as you basically have to boil fats or oils with sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide. If you want to be that brave you need to check out a soap-making site for proper detailed instructions.

    Well that's the rough jist.

I bet you could sell your creations. Organic and all-natural products are becoming more and more popular every year.

I'm not sure how much shelf-life they would have as I don't use preservatives, I just make stuff when I need it. Besides it is so easy I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't just do it themselves if they were keen on that sort of thing. But thanks for the suggestion.

Not as clever as making your own washing machine though. Now that is environmentally friendly and cheap.

OK, I want to use soapnuts, now. The biggest draw? No rinse cycle.

I found one site that sells them in the us. A 1kg bag is $40, which seems to about as cheap as you can get them, here. If I get this job, then I think I'll find a way to order them. It would completely eliminate the need to buy laundry soap, household cleaners, and maybe even soap and shampoo.

I'd like to get as low-impact and eco-friendly as possible. I'm living on my own for the first time, so this is as good a time as any to start. And, with cats, the fewer chemicals in my cleaners, the better.

Hello bear I haven't caught up with you in a while. Hi Fr Chuck. That sounds cool enough for a DJ name to me, but hey I'm no queen of cool.
