Hi there guys,

I know it's a little late to check on it, but today I ran the square around the room(getting ready for cabinets) and found out that one of my corners is way out of square. I ran a straight line and found the problem to be that one wall dips away as it runs towards the corner.



I know it's hard to tell, but I ended up with about 1/2" space at the corner, which tapers to 0" at about 20".

The reason it looks deeper at 10" is because I ran a coat of mud at the corner to see how building it up would work.

This corner is going to have the corner cabinet that holds the sink and a tile backsplash. I don't have to worry above the window because the corner is magically in square from the midline of the room up.

What is the collective opinion? Will I be all right building up 1/2" with mud or will my backsplash end up in my sink? :)

Any thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

It is difficult to see your situation based on that picture but walls area rearely square and shimming is almost always needed when installing cabinets. This may help you. Installing Kitchen Base Cabinets

Hi there bb1,

Thanks very much for the link. I don't think I ever installed cabinets where I didn't use shims, but 1/2" is a bunch. It's more than the tile backsplash will cover and scribing 1/2" off the countertop while setting the cabinet out 1/2"(for a net of 1" lost), I'm concerned that will total out the amount of overhang available on the countertop.
