Water Under Shower Pan Tile Floor
I just demo'd my shower floor and found that it had a pretty good glaze of water along with an unpleasant smell underneath the tiles, particularly in the corners. It is still drying out three days after I pulled the floor out. I am a little baffled because I have not run water in the shower for 4-5 weeks. I would have thought that 1) it would have either evaporated or 2) made its way into the weep holes. Does anyone have any experience with shower tile removal? Does this just sound like a poor/old caulk job or something else given the amount of time since water were run in the shower? I have read that tile floor are water resistant and not waterproof, so the tile, shower pan and membrane act as a system to make sure water drains out. Therefore, is it expected that water will run behind the tile but just not make it below the membrane? Fortunately, besides the water and smell, there does not appear to be any damage or mold. Any help is appreciated.
