    Unknown author/title
It's not a book in the sense that it's a story, but rather it's a compilation of beautiful pencil illustrations and I think there's either just the title of what each story that goes along with the illustrations or a little blurb or something.
There's a lot of mystery surrounding the author/illustrator. I think the story goes that the author brought in these illustrations and the tittle/blurb to several short stories he had written to a publisher in an attempt to get them published or interest the publishing house, but he disappeared right after turning them in.
There's always something strange or otherworldly about each illustration. I think one is of two little children skipping rocks, another of a phantom ship maybe, and one more of a room with a lamp and something's going on with the carpet I think.
I loved think book when I was a kid, but I can't remember anything more about it. Any help at all would be great, it's driving me crazy! Thanks!

I read a novel years ago, where the story concerned a group of plane crash survivors who used scrap material from a nearby abandoned mine to construct medieval type weapons (trebuchet, crossbows, etc), to prevent a local militia from crossing a river to capture them. I initially believed it was...
