Vicodin contains hydrocodone, a semi-synthetic opioid. As such, it can be from three hours to three days, depending on how quickly it is metabolized. Some people may metabolize drugs at a different rate and, thus, have slightly different time frames as to how long the drug will stay in the body. How quickly it happens depends on such things as:

- amount and frequency of use
- the body's rate of metabolism
- your body mass (size)
- your age
- your tolerance to drugs or alcohol
- your overall health
- how drugs are taken (swallowed, inhaled, smoked, injected)

Usually, people who are supposed to be taking a given drug don't worry too much about it being in their bloodstream. Just an observation. That said, I can think of valid and legitimate reasons for a person to be concerned about how long a drug is in their bloodstream... reasons which have nothing to do with illicit drug use, as my smart-mouthed tone herein implied. So, then... if you're asking for a legitimate reason havng nothing to illicit drug use, my apologies. Otherwise, I stand by the smart-mouthed tone. [grin]

Question just asked in another thread - 72 hours (give or take a little) if you have 100% kidney function; longer if you have impaired kidney function and your blood is not getting cleaned. Varies slightly by sex, weight.

My husband taught Pharmacology and I looked it up on his chart.

Also - and you didn't ask this - appears vicodine stays in the hair for some time.
