    HDD unallocation trouble
    Hello,

Can somebody help me with the following problem?:

IDE HDD used in a external USB data storage box for a few years.
Made a backup for a friend, and wanted to copy the data to his restored PC.
Turned on the USB HDD with NTFS system on it. Got the present beep, but no drive letter appeared.
In the XP storage management you see the disk as "unallocated".
Tried several PC's and several USB IDE boxes no luck.
    Is there a trick?

The drive was not moved of its place en sounds healthy. I don't think anything is wrong with it,
But... I like to retrieve the data on it.

    Kees.

If this is a new install make sure you have all the latest mobo drivers.
Double check the device manager to make sure there are no missing USB drivers.
    Try a different USB port.
Try it on a different computer.
Pull the drive out of the enclosure and connect it w/an IDE cable if all else fails.
