    Out of left field, but I inherited a weedeater with my house, went to use it a few months later with similar results. Looked at the manual, and it said something about spiders nesting in the little exhaust port. Used a small screwdriver to clear it out, and it worked just fine for years afterward.

    This too can keep an engine from running. i.e. too much back pressure.
