Tax filing status - Married in 2006 and divorced in 2007.
Below is important information for entry and exit dates in US on H1B visa.
Upon exit from US, I was back in home country India.
    Entry 1: 07-Mar-2006
    Exit 1 : 09-Sep-2006
    Entry 2: 05-Oct-2006
    Exit 2 : 30-Jun-2007
    Date of Marriage 1 : 22-Sep-2006
    Date of Divorce 1 : 19-Nov-2007
    Date of Marriage 2: 16-Feb-2008
    Entry 3: 05-Apr-2008 (now on L1B visa)

I was working in New York city but stayed in New Jersey throughout the term.

For 2006 return was filed by me and my spouse as "Married filing jointly" status.
For 2007 return, I'm not able to figure out my tax status. Total stay in US in 2007 is 181 days. I got married and divorced in India.

Can you help out the tax filing status which would give me maximum refund?

Let me know your contact details to seek professional services for tax filing.

    Thanks in advance

    For 2007 you are single.

You will file NY tax return as nonresidnet and pay tax on all the income earned in NY.
You will also file NJ reporting all your income. Then on NJ return you will claim credit for the taxes paid to NY.
