    How do I remove a ceiling fan?

    Turn off power to fan, Remove any light kit, then the blades, then you will need to remove the screws on the canopy, If it is the large ceiling hugger(about a foot diameter)disconnect the wires, cap off and remove the 3 screws. Fan should be able to be removed.
    If it is the small canopy, remove the screws that go through holes, loosen the ones that have a turn to remove slot, turn and lower fan.
    Some have a Ball and socket, that require lifting out of socket once wirers are disconnected.
    Another uses a Lag bolt that needs to be lifted off.
