    Computer reboots whenever it chooses!
My computer has Windows ME. It has a mind of its own. It shuts down and reboots whenever it decides to. I have reloaded Windows ME. What else should I do?

Have you already run a full system scan for virus's and a spyware removal tool like spybot ?

If not, that should be step 1.

If it were my 'puter I'd backup docs, format and reinstall WinME to see if it works. Better yet, though: If you've got Win98, it's better than ME. ME is notorious for problems.

If that did not work, it would stump me - and I'd be taking it to a shop - or getting a guru over to my house.

I hope you have some luck - or get some better advice from one of the folk here on this one.

    Sorry I couldn't help more.

If you've reloaded the OS from scratch and you're still getting random reboots then I would check the hardware. Sometimes not enough cooling will cause the machine to reboot. Check to see if your CPU has a working fan and is free of dust. Do the same for your memory chips as well. Dust will collect in a machine and after a long time will act as a insulation and overheat the machine.

    Good Luck

I'd also lean towards some kind of hardware problem. There might be a problem with the power supply or something. I'd try taking it into a PC repair shop and have them take a look.

    Hi gayle:
If U got a old system. Maybe the CPU is getting too hot. Take out the CPU fan and clean it up with a brush. If this still don't help to solve the problem, Check your memory one by one if U got several modules in Ur system.
    Good Luck
