    Home seller must replace carpets?
We are under a contract already to buy a house, but did not specify in the contract the need for the carpet to be replaced. Can we still ask for it before closing? It can be part of the inspection report?
    Thanks

Read your contract carefully, particularly the inspection paragraph. If the paragraph says that the purpose of the inspection is to make sure that the structure is sound and that all major systems are in working order (as most form contracts provide) then you can forget about expecting the carpets to be replaced.

Of course it never hurts to ask. You can always try.

Normally this needed to be asked for at the beginning of the dealing, where you included that in the offer and/or counter offer. Normally carpet will not even be part of a home inspection, unless it has some danger about it.

So I guess you can ask for it, but at this point, don't expect it,

The prevoius answers are on the money. If your deal had been countered you could have added the carpet to the deal but not now. I would think that in the minds of most buyers bad carpet has already been recognized and reflected in the offering price. Didn't you think the carpet was iffy when you came up with your number?

Is there a law requiring apartment owners to replace carpets? [ 3 Answers ]

Is there a law requiring apartment complexes to replace the carpet in the apartment if they know there have been pets? I was wondering this because I know some people have pet allergies and even if the carpet has been cleansed, you can't always get all the allergins out.
