    Heat not working
    Hello -

Yesterday, my heat worked just fine. Late yesterday or last night, it stopped. My hot water still works and my gas fireplace still works. My stove/oven are not gas... they are all electric. The fan still kicks on and it acts as if it's working fine, but it's blowing cool air, not hot. My furnace is located under the house.

Before I go under the house (it's filthy on that dirt floor!) does this sound like a pilot light out? Would my gas fireplace work and hot water stay hot if the pilot light was out?

    Thanks so much !

No, the furnace pilot should have noting to do with the hot water heater or fireplace but those working show that it is probably not a gas issue.

I would guess the pilot light has blown out, or, you may need to replace the thermocouple.

I just had to replace mine a couple of months ago, it was fairly easy to do with my furnace, you may be able to do it yourself.

    Good Luck.

How old is the furnace? If it is less than 20 years old it probably needs a new "HOT SURFACE IGNITOR" This device is wired to 120VAC and the circuit board turns the power to it just before the gas valve is opened. They burn at 1200 degrees F and burn out like a light bulb over time. You can replace it yourself of have an HVAC Service Co do it. My company charges about 150.00 plus service call of 89.00
