Please can some one help! I have a shower arm that I just can not work out how to install. The arm came with no instructions. It is basically a chrome plated tube with a bend and threads at each end. There was a cover plate to hide the hole when the arm is installed but this is not connected to the arm in any way. So I assume that that it needs fixed pipe work behind the wall to hold it in place.

The plan was to fit elbow with a bracket behind the wall where the arm will go through. All is fine until I screw in the arm - when it is tight it is upside down and points to the Ceiling. There is no way that it will tighten any more as the arm is right to the back of the elbow.

It has been suggested that I try and cut the threads off the arm but this seems to be a bit hit and miss as to where to cut. The other option was to use a straight connector but then how do I secure this so the arm does not pull away from the wall.

I am sure that there is a very simple solution but having never done this before I am lost!

Neil T... pull that shower arm out again. Use 6-7 wraps of teflon tape (wrap clockwise) and then tighten the shower arm in to where it is tight.. but not bottomed out into fitting. Then install that chrome plate over the shower arm (just slides over the pipe and pushes up tight to wall). Then teflon tape shower arm and install shower head.. then test all for leaks.

Do not cut anything!!

Follow Marks advice about wraping the threads with Teflon Tape. Bare in mind that there will be much less pressure at the shower arm threads then at the valve itself, so you don't need to crank down on it so hard. Good luck, Tom

Thanks for the assistance guys. In the end I was in B&Q and saw a chrome fitting the same as what I had already bought. On the off chance I thought that I would give it a go and the arm fits perfectly and is nice and tight.

I still have not got round to connecting the shower to the water supply yet but from the fit it seems much better.

Can I just add that the speed you answered my question in was fantastic. Any the advise given was much appreciated.
