    ceiling fan electric connections
I need to hook up a new fan w/light kit. In the box I have a red, black, white, and
green ground coming from two variable wall switchs that will control fan and light.
from the fan is a blue, black, white, and green wire. I have tried different ways to
hook them up so that they are being controlled from the wall switches, to no avail.
    I can't afford an electrician.

Can you afford to post only once?

    Try:

    Black - black
    Blue - red
    White - white
    Green - green

If that doesn't work try switching black and red.

If that doesn't work.. . Are you replacing an old fan? What brand are the switches?

Where are you getting the source to supply power to the fan? Are you using a 3 wire switch loop from the ceiling junction box?

Or are the switches being supplied with power and the connections are then completed at the fan as CFR gave you?
