Sorry but I would like to get more info before I answer definitely. Double switch? Is that two separate single pole switches? Or the switch over switch? Which of the wires is the hot?

Assuming standard USA color codes, and the two switches each control one load, the black is hot and feeds each switch at the top terminal. The red goes to the bottom of one switch, and the white must be taped black and connect to the bottom of the other switch.

There bare connects to the green screw on each switch, and the box if it is metal.

ANything different , provide the answers for my questions.

I have a ceiling fan and I think the switch is bad. Is a single switch box and the wires that come out the wall are white, red black ground. And the switch has a green wire from the buttom of switch.

First off I should have told you that any wire can be hot and you should check each wire.

The hot may be the white.

Did you take the wires off?

Either the black, white , or any wire can be hot, the hot should go to one side that has a jumper, look closely at each pair of terminals one will have a pieces of metal connecting two screws on one side .The other side will have two screws not connected togeher.

The other two wires will each go to one of the other two terminals.Gren goes to green screw on the bottom.

First of all, which color wires connected to where on the old switch?
Second of all, are these the only wires in the box?
Third of all, does your fan have a light, and did the old switch control the fan and light separately?

There are 2 places where you will have black, red, white and ground. One where you have 2 loads, perhaps fan and light. The other is where you have 2 switches that control the same light or light/fan combination. Explain what you have and any one of us can give the right answer.
