    Whether to repair or purchase new furnace/AC?
    I have a 14 year old Lennox system and the igniter panel (may or not be correct term?) is out, so it's going to cost $500 or so to fix it. I know it would save energy to buy a new system, but my AC is fine. How long do systems of this age normally last? I have had no other repairs yet. I'm short on funds, so I hope to fix it and buy later on when I have more cash. But one guy says I should buy now and save future repair costs. I think it's a crap shoot! Would you knowledgeable people invest several thousand to buy new, or just fix it and hope it lasts a few more years? If you bought, what brand would you buy? I do know to find a reputable company to install it, but that's about all! Thanks!

    At 14 years it is close to replacement time.

    ((I do know to find a reputable company to install it, but that's about all!))

    I would buy the furnace from the company that is going to install it.

    I agree,time to replace. Your next furnace and AC is a chance to upgrade to more efficient equipment that will give you some payback. Order the highest SEER AC unit you can afford.

    The major brand companies will offer you financing(credit card) with high interest, its not bad if your in a bind and can pay it off quick. Your system is on its way out, as far as average life expectancy(16 years). What happens if your compressor walks out in a few months for $1400 to replace it with just a 1 year warranty that comes with it. I under stand times are bad but some times its better to cut an run.
