    Eviction rights
    My husband and I bought a double wide in 1997 from his brother and sister-in-law we thought at the time that the land came with it however about a year later we found out it didn't in November of last year they said they wanted us to move within a year or 2 now this week we get a letter from them telling us that we have 6 months to get out. The double wide is an older home and we will have trouble moving it. Do we have any rights in this matter? We have never paid rent it wasn't part of the deal when we purchased the home. Since that time we have added an above ground pool with a fence around it and they didn't say anything about that.

    If you own the home and have it titled in your name, then I would suggest trying to find a home mover to move this for you. You did not pay any rent and I'm surprised that you were not told to pay rent. Consider the time you were there as a "gift" as money you did not have to pay. Moving a home and taking it apart and putting it back together is not cheap. If you can move it, move it. If you can't move it, then you will have to sell it as you were given an "eviction" pre-notice. They can and probably will take you to court and have you evicted off the land and the home will have to either be moved or stay there with you not living in it. Go back to your original sale agreement if you had one and see what it says. Go to the tax office and see what the tax office has for that particular piece of land as far as ownership and how much taxes are paid and what the taxes cover. If it covers the land AND the mobile home, possibly you have some kind of leg to stand on but I wouldn't be 100% certain of this. Have you been paying the yearly taxes on the mobile home yourself since you bought it? Have you tried to negotiate buying the land from them? You could get a loan for just the land if you own the mobile home outright. Most banks will loan money on land. Try that.

    You have several issues, what did the sale contract on the property say, did you buy a title to the mobile home or was it a deed. That tells you what you bought, and to buy land or mobile home, normally the agreement has to be in writing and be specific.

    So you may find the actual sale was not legal, you need to have an attorney look at all of your paper work,

    But if the sale is valid, you have to move the home before they start charging you rent or file other legal actions to force the home off the property
