How do I seal a homemade oak table?
I have an oak trestle table that has not been sealed. I soak it with lemon furniture oil because it is so dry. Should the oak be sealed or rubbed with a wax to keep it from drying out? Thanks for answering.

What will you be using this table for? Depending on how it will be used will help us to determine what kind of finish would be best for it. Also, how large is this table, please?

Dining table. Its size is approximately 4.5' wide by 6' long.

    Thank you

Since this is a dining table, then I would suggest using a high-solids lacquer or a polyurethane on it for the best protection. I am concerned that since you say that you have oiled it, that applying any kind of tough clear coat after that might lead to pin-holing or fish eyeing in the finish because of the possible incompatibility between the oil and other types of finishing materials. You could test on a small area and see what happens. I would also suggest applying a very thin first coat of high-solids lacquer or polyurethane.
