    Crossely Top Loading Washing Machine
It is about 7 years old and I have been phoned from home and was told that it is making either a ticking or clicking noise during the spin cycle. Would anyone have an idea what the problem might be or what it might cost.

Most probably something got stuck between the tub and inner wall.
Open the water filter and check if something got stuck there (often anything getting in between - like bra wires - ends up in the exhaust hole to the waterpump and can be reached from the filter area)
An alternative problem may be the main bearing of the drum. That is something that can't be repaired economically, as a new washing machine is often cheaper.
As third option you have to remove the rear panel, and check if the drive belt is in good condition.

    Advice :
FIRST disconnect the power lead from the socket, and put the cable on the ground in front of you : safety first!
Only after that is done you can safely do inspections and repairs.
Remember that the combination of water and electricity in a washing machine are widow makers...

    Success!
