I have a maytag performer dryer and it stopped it dried a couple of my clothing and when I went to start another load of clothing it would not start at all not making any sounds of any sort replaced the door switch because someone told me it could be that and now they are saying that my timer motor is reading 1500 and should be reading 2200 this needs to be replaced I then called the hardware store that I purchase items for my previous dryer and they stated could be the thermostat I really need some answers this dryer is only about 2 yrs old.

The thermostat seems indeed to be the problem here.
First of all : you ALWAYS have to clean the air filter from lint before running the next drying cycle.
Lint can cause unnecessary heating up, fire, equipment failure, and it cost money for extra electricity use.
It also may cause your thermostat to cut out.
Some dryers are provided with thermostat switches (they reconnect after the temperature goes no normal), others use thermal cut outs, blowing some kind of fuse in the dryer.
It depends on what type of switch is mounted in your dryer. Check your manual (also available at Sears) : \

    Or
    Parts & Accessories 2

    Success!
