    Sump Pump Plumbing
I have a very active sump pump in my basement with a check valve on the discharge pvc line. At the end of each discharge cycle there is a very loud thumping at the check valve. What can I do to reduce this thumping noise and vibration?

Do you have a swing or a spring check valve. Is it mounted vertical or horizontal? Is it installed next to the pump or farther up the line? How much slope on the discharge line? Has it always done this thumping or did it just start? In short we need more details. Tom

Is this a bladder tank or a galvanized pressure tank? Why is there a pressure relief valve installed? What function does it perform? If this is a bladder tank and your cut in pressure's 30 then shut power off to the pump and bleed the system down. You may not set the bladder tank pressure at 28 PSI. And if it's a galvanized pressure than you don't release any air from the tank. Drain it and start over. M The air in a pressure tank will act the same as a bladder. Good luck, Tom

Folks, I've had the good fortune to stop by an area plumbing sotre, explain my problem and get it solved. I purchased a newly designed "quiet" check valve. It works beautifully. Thanks for your follow-up questions.
