Felon join the srevice on probation?
Hi I'm asking this queastion for my son. He was convicted of 2 felonies when he was 17 for sexual assult. He is currently serving a 5year sentence. He will be on probation for 10 years which we will fight. Is their any chance of him going any branch of the service. I have been on the military web sities and some he will need a waiver, and some he can't join,he will be released on April 0f 09. Does he have a chance? Thank you rene mayer.

There is a new program called Future Soldier that the Army has now. I think this would be something you should look into for your son.

There was just a discussion on TV news about people on the sex registry NOT being able to join/serve. As I recall it was less about the felony conviction and more about the sex crime.

I still would call and ask them. The Army is rather pressed for new soldiers to join up. He just might have a chance being he was so young when crime committed. A phone call won't hurt. Future Soldiers have gone directly from prison to boot camp with no stops in between. It's worth a try in any event.

First will he not be on PAROLE, not probation after he gets out of prison?

But he would need permission of the parole and/or probatoin officer since there is no way for a soldier to check in with a officer.

And as for as fighting a sentence, there has to be a grounds for an appeal
